Hospital-acquired infections are the third leading cause of death worldwide, after cancer and heart disease. In Israel, they result in 4,000–6,000 deaths and cost around 980 million shekels annually. These infections are mainly caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria spread by medical staff, often due to hygiene lapses.

In collaboration with Shaare Zedek Medical Center, we identified two core issues: infections are invisible, and information transfer is slow.

We proposed an AI-based system based on two insights:

Cleaner spaces and less crowding reduce infections

Infection transmission

This system collects data from existing sources and smart sensors (e.g., ESP32), generating a real-time, color-coded infection risk map.

It improves awareness, identifies patterns, and enhances staff response using accurate, accessible data, without requiring structural changes.
